What I mean is that checking the drawing revision isn't just comparing two numbers—it's about understanding whether materials, dimensions, or torque specs changed, and whether the part can still be used with the older mating flange.
I knew I should verify the revision on a replacement seal housing once, but thought 'what are the odds?' Well, the odds caught up with me when we installed the housing and discovered the bolt pattern was 5 mm off. That was a $2,800 mistake. The client was not happy (understandably).
Bottom line: if it's a pressure-containing part or a rotating component, compare the drawing number and revision level against the equipment record.

A part being 'available' doesn't mean it will arrive before your maintenance window. Ask three questions: What is the actual stock date? Is that the shipping date or the receiving date? What happens if it arrives damaged?
It's tempting to think you can just compare unit prices. But identical specs from different suppliers can end in very different results when the stock date is a guess and the freight quote is for the wrong service class. Comparing two couriers without a mission profile is the logistics version of 'new glenn vs 9' arguments: the right answer depends on payload, schedule, and point of origin, not on brand loyalty.
